1. Theology – The Advance Theology Course

We have a passion for developing the “head, heart, and hands” of young men and women following Jesus. The imagery communicates that biblical instruction ought to enrich our minds with knowledge of Christ, expand our hearts with love for Christ, and equip our hands for the works of Christ. We don’t trust Christ just because he makes the best argument or has the best facts but because we know him, and he is trustworthy. Facts, arguments, and proofs factor into our trust of him, but the Person of Christ comes before, during, and after these facts. Ultimately, “the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith” (1 Timothy 1:5)

In the Advance Theology course, we’ll cover:

  1. The Pentateuch (Genesis to Deuteronomy)

  2. Conquest to Monarchy (Joshua to 2 Kings)

  3. Division to Exile (The history of Israel and Judah)

  4. Exile and Return (The return from exile back to Judah)

  5. The Gospels (Matthew to John)

  6. The Church Age (Acts to Revelation)

  7. From Scripture to Theology

The purpose of the course is:

  • Information (knowledge of and about the scriptures),

  • Revelation (God revealing truth to us),

  • Devotion (to know God and be wholly devoted to Him)

  • Action (“True Religion” is defined by action that imitates the true God).

2. Who am I becoming?

What does it actually mean to be a “follower of Jesus?” How do I become more like Jesus?

It is not just an event on a Sunday or life group during the week, but a “way” of life in community around the teachings of Jesus. To live like this means we need to be transformed, from the inside out and by the renewing of our minds.

Is this kind of radical change of character possible? Even in the chaos of the modern, digital, urban world? We agree with John Mark Comer in saying, “The answer is: absolutely yes. Through teaching, practice, community, and the Holy Spirit, we can recover our humanity in apprenticeship to Jesus.”

3. Christian Worldview

The world continues to be shaped by provocative voices, ideologies and political agendas. We believe we must equip our students with the practical skills to engage in these conversations and give a case for Christianity in a world that wants to silence our voice. We want students to learn to be firm in our Christian beliefs but also loving in our approach.

4. Leadership

Being a godly leader, whether in church or marketplace, means being a servant hearted leader, where you serve God and others. This will be a space for you to learn what godly leadership entails. How you can lead yourself well and lead others well. We want to fan into flame the gifting of young, passionate leaders who are able to influence their different spheres for Gods glory.

5. Life Skills

Approaching the real world responsibilities of life can be hard. Part of the academy curriculum is giving you many practical life skills such as working in teams, budgeting, time-management and conflict resolution and many more.

We believe these are the skills that can give us the advantage in starting our careers and stewarding our lives well.

6. Mission Exposure

The Life and Leadership Academy team aims to attend two local mission trips in South Africa or neighbouring countries. Our hope to learn how to be hands feet to other local communities and understand different contexts other than our own. We are also open to our academy students being able to participate on short term missional exposures with other teams within our congregations.
