Fill the City 2021

Since 2017, across all of our Common Ground congregations, we’ve united to do all we can to give our city five gifts over five years. They’re the kind of gifts only the church can give. And they’re the kind of gifts that (although diverse in focus) have one common goal:

 To Fill the City with the message, life and fame of Jesus!

As we head into our final phase of this 5 year journey, we are focusing on some key projects.

Earlier this Year:

Common Ground has always been a church-planting church; it is an essential part of who we are! We’re so grateful that God opened the door into the bustling suburb of Langa in 2019, and in 2020 opened the door for a church plant into the M5 corridor. These two congregations have been vital to their communities during this Covid season, and along with some of the pastors and churches in our church strengthening network, have been doing incredible work for the mission of God into our great city. In 2021, R1.6m of the R3.6m we are seeking to raise goes towards helping to strengthen churches, those that we have planted, and those beyond ourselves into under-resourced areas. Common Good’s vision is to see those who have been marginalised by injustice move into a space of flourishing – physically, spiritually, economically and socially. This view of the whole person, filled with God-given potential, is the foundation of our triple E strategy. In 2021, R2m of the R3.6m we are seeking to raise goes directly to Common Good’s work into Early Life, Education and Employment training. We would love you to watch the stories in the video below:

The vision to fill our city lives on as one of our core values as a church, but 2021 is the last lap of our 5-year fundraising campaign to get behind the programs and ministries that have allowed us to accelerate this vision into Cape Town.

This year we are raising money for our most recent church plants into Langa and the M5 corridor (who have been doing amazing work as new congregations in their Covid-hit communities); for Common Good and their triple E strategy (as they continue to run incredible initiatives promoting compassion and justice); and for under-resourced pastors and churches in our city (with whom we are privileged to partner).
